Your Questions, Answered
If you still have questions, please email us at contact@cyancounseling.com.
What do you specialize in?
Do you take insurance?
This ultimately depends on if you live in Michigan and what type of assistance you are looking for. If the focus is therapy and mental health then, yes. Just fyi, insurance does require me to conduct a formal intake session, list a diagnosis, and create a treatment plan.
If your focus is career counseling, I am able to bill your health insurance ONLY if our sessions shift beyond career planning to focus more on achieving better mental and emotional well-being and improving your quality of life.
Currently, I am in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Blue Care Network, United Healthcare, and Aetna. I do not take Medicaid or Medicare.
What do you charge?
For private pay clients, I have a rate of $160 per each 55 minute session, regardless of the session focus. If you cannot afford the full fee, Open Path Collective is a resource that connects private pay clients with counselors that offer a sliding scale. I offer a limited amount of openings for Open Path clients and update the profile if I am full.
Can you see clients from another state?
As a Certified Career Counselor, I am able to work with clients that are not located in Michigan if the purpose is related to career development.
Are all appointments virtual?
I offer both virtual and in-person sessions depending on my availability. All staff members are fully vaccinated and up to date on boosters. Masks are not required for in person sessions though I am happy to wear one at a client’s request.
How many sessions will I need?
To be honest, that really depends on you and the work we are doing! I have some career clients that only need me for 2-3 sessions, but I also have therapy clients that see me on weekly or bi-weekly basis. During the intake session, I will be able to better assess your needs and we will collaborate together to discuss how often we need to meet.
What is your cancellation policy?
The following fees apply for missed appointments or late cancellations without at least 24 hours notice (excluding sudden illness or emergency):
- $50 for the first occurrence, $100 for the second, and $150 thereafter.
What is the age range you work with?
I work with clients ages 17 and up.
What is your experience and training?
I hold a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of North Carolina- Asheville in Psychology and received a Master of Arts degree in Counseling from Eastern Michigan University with a concentration in College Counseling in 2013. Following my graduation, I completed 3,000 hours of supervised practice before becoming fully licensed as a Professional Counselor in Michigan (license # 6401014470). I am also nationally certified as a Career Counselor through NCDA. I opened this practice in 2021. Previously, I have worked in college and high school settings as a therapist, career counselor, academic advisor, and disability services counselor.
My philosophy and approach to counseling is based on an integrative approach that is person-centered and collaborative. I draw from resources based in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Person-Centered Theory, Solution-Focused Therapy, and many others. In addition, I have received certifications and additional training in Autistic and ADHD informed assessment practices, assessing implicit bias in mental health, building a neurodiversity affirming practice, as well as pursuing numerous continuing education courses focused on expanding my knowledge of ADHD and Autism.
